BREAST CANCER
The specialized doctors can not always explain why some persons have cancer, and others don't. Although, the researchers have studied the specifics of different types of cancer, in the population, to discover environmental factors, or lifestyle factors, that can favor the apparition of cancer.
Risk factors are all those factors that increase the risk for a person to develop cancer, and all the factors that determine the decrease of the chance to develop cancer are called protector factors. Some of the cancer risk factors can be avoided, but for most of them, this is not possible. For example, although is every person's option to quit smoking or not, regarding the inherited genes, there is no chance to change this thing. Both smoking and the specific inherited genes can be considered risk factors for certain types of cancer, but only smoking can be avoided. Preventing the development of cancer represents avoiding risk factors, and increasing protector factors, that can be controlled, so that the risk of cancer to decrease.

Although many risk factors can be avoided, it is very important to remember the fact that avoiding some risk factors does not guarantee the  fact that that person will not develop a cancer, in time. Also, the majority of the persons who have a cancer specific risk factor, will not develop this affection. It is recommended a medical consult regarding the cancer prevention methods, which can be efficient in every person's case.

PREVENTION OF BREAST CANCER

The breast is formed from lobes, lobules and acini, that are connected through galactofore ducts. In the breast's structure we also find blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. Lymphatic vessels collect the lymph from the breast, and transport it to the lymphatic ganglions, nearby. The lymphatic ganglions groups, where the lymph is collected, at breast level, is in the armhole, in the neck (cervical ganglions), at thorax level, and in other parts of the organism. The lymphatic vessels, together with the lymphatic ganglions, make the lymphatic system, through which an organic, translucent liquid circulates, called the lymph. The lymph contains cells that help the immune system to protect itself in case of some infections or diseases.

In the case of breast cancer spreading, from this level, most common, the cancerous cells are localized in the armhole lymphatic ganglions. In most of the cases, when cancerous cells arrive in the lymphatic ganglions, they, through the lymphatic system or through blood circulation, arrive in other parts of the organism.

For women, breast cancer represent the second cause of cancer mortality, after lung cancer. Also, breast cancer appears in men, but the cases are rare. Early diagnosis and establishing a treatment are expected to reduce the number of deaths, for women with breast cancer, and now, new methods of prevention are tested. Sometimes, breast cancer is associated with some known risk factors. The majority of risk factors can be modified, although they can not be avoided.
Selective estrogen-receptor modulator (SERMs) for breast cancer prevention: SERMs are medicines that have an action mode similar with the estrogen, in some tissues of the organism, for example the bone tissue, but in the level of other tissues, these medicines block the effect of the estrogen.
Tamoxifen in a SERMs that blocks the estrogen effect (amplifying the cell functions, and first of all inducing cellular division) over the cancerous cells in the breast. An important study has shown that tamoxifen decreases the risk of breast cancer, for women that have an increased risk to develop the disease. But, tamoxifen can also increase the risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, and the forming of trombi in vein and lung level (venous thrombosis and embolism). Women that have a hgh risk of developing breast cancer, must see a specialized doctor, for the tamoxifen treatment, with the purpose to prevent breast cancer. It is very important to consider the risks and the benefits of the tamoxifen therapy.

Raloxifene is another medicine from SERMs class, for which, we now have studies  in course, regarding its effect in preventing breast cancer. A study made on women in their menopause, that associate osteoporosis also, shows that administrating raloxifene determines the decrease of breast cancer risk, also in high risk women, and low risk women. The positive effects of raloxifene are seen both in women with osteoporosis, and in those that do not have ths affection. Similar to the tamoxifen, raloxifene favors the apparition of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, but unlike tamoxifen, raloxifene does not seem to increase the risk of endometrial cancer.

Hormonal factors

Ovary hormones seem to increase the risk for women to develop breast cancer. Surgical elimination of ne, or both ovaries reduces the risk for breast cancer. Administrating some medicines that can suppress the estrogen production, can inhibit the proliferation of tumoral cells. Administrating estrogen-progestative therapy, also called combined hormonal substitution therapy, is associated with  high risk to develop breast cancer. Using oral contraceptives, can also be associated with a moderate risk for breast cancer.
Among the factors that decrease the risk for breast cancer, we see menarche (first menstruation), for a more advanced age, and the presence of a pregnancy, carried until the labor term. Also, women that gave birth before the age of 20 have a decreased risk for cancer, compared with women that had no pregnancy, or women that have babies after the age of 35. Menopause installation, in an advanced age, determine the increase of breast cancer risk.

Radiation
The studies have shown that reducing the radiation exposure, especially at thorax level (thorax X-ray), in an early age, decreases the risk to develop breast cancer. The radiotherapy made for young girls with Hodgkin lymphoma, determines the increase of breast cancer risk, later during life. A small number of cancer cases can be determined by radiation exposure, during life, especially in the childhood.

Diet and lifestyle
Now, the role of diet as risk factor for breast cancer, is being studied. Studies show that mortality, from breast cancer, in women that consume a big quantity of lipids, is much higher than for the ones that have a diet low in lipids. It is known that  low fat diet could prevent breast cancer. Also, the studies show that certain vitamins can determine the decrease of the risk for breast cancer for some women, especially for women that are before menopause. Physical exercises, especially for young women, can determine the decrease of hormonal levels, and, as a consequence, the risk for breast cancer. Nursing can also decrease the breast cancer risk. Studies have demonstrated the existence of the cause-effect relation , between alcohol consuming and the increased risk for breast cancer. Obesity, after menopause, especially after the age of 60, can increase the risk for breast cancer.

Prophylactic mastectomy
As a result of the evaluation for breast cancer risk, and after psychological counseling, the resection of both breasts can reduce the risk of breast cancer development, for women that have relatives with this condition.

Genetic factors
Women who inherit breast cancer specific genes, have an increased risk for developing this affection. Now, the discovery of some methods to identify these genes is tried.
